  EXCERPT:
From opposite the long table of food, the brunette gave him a blatant once over as he came to a stop in front of her, twirling a strand of purple hair around her fingertip. When she reached his lucky belt buckle, her sinful lips twitched. “If the words, ‘Come here often,’ leave your mouth, I swear I’ll laugh you straight back to roadie-ville.” Her words were harsh, but the smile that sprang free was playful, and Tyler found himself mesmerized by the familiar twang of her southern voice.

So much so that he’d almost missed what she said. “Roadie-ville?” “Sorry, do you prefer techie?” Her cute nose wrinkled as she stuck her hands in her back jeans pocket. “I heard someone else say that earlier, but I swear that sounds like a computer nerd.” She looked him up and down again, this time her gaze lingering around his hips. Slightly south of the belt buckle. Hot damn. “I think roadie fits you better. Sounds sexier.”

Tyler scratched the side of his jaw. Was she messing with him? He’d heard a hell of a lot of come-ons since making it to Nashville and had been propositioned in every way possible. But this was a first. The woman stared back, smiling that damn seductive smile, and he realized she honestly had no clue who he was. For some reason, he was in no hurry to correct that just yet. He couldn’t recall the last time he’d gone anywhere without being recognized, much less his own concert. But since the room was swarming with crew, Tyler could understand the confusion...if she weren’t a hardcore fan, and clearly, this woman wasn’t.

Tyler swiped a hand over his mouth, hiding a smile. “Sugar, you can call me anything you like,” he drawled, laying it on thick even to his own ears. Her pretty lips parted, and he grinned. “And what can I call you?” Her smile twisted into a smirk. “Who said you could call me at all?” He laughed, shocked again, and for the first time in a long time, speechless. She winked. “I’m Sherry.” When she said her name, she looked right into his eyes as if he should remember it, and he had no doubt that he would. The confidence pouring off her was sexy as hell.

“And...you are?” “Tyler,” he replied, glad she’d gone with just her first name so he could do the same. The rest of the world simply referred to Tyler as Blue, the front man for the band bearing his last name. Even so, he stood back and waited for a sign of recognition. It never came. When it became obvious she really had no clue who he was, nor would she guess any time soon, Tyler felt a knot of tension release between his shoulder blades.

“So, Sherry, you planning to watch tonight’s show?” She pulled a face. “I’m not much for country, other than the line dances. All those songs about trucks and trains and whiskey and dogs, though that last one I can forgive.” Her smile softened and Tyler moved closer, wanting to be nearer the genuine warmth of it. “No offense to your boss or anything,” she added with a slight grimace. “I heard he’s pretty hot...even if he is the man-whore of country music.” A shocked laugh burst from his lips. “Excuse me?” She waved her comment away, as if she hadn’t just insulted him to his face—which, he guessed, she hadn’t really. At least not on purpose. “Just a theory I have. I’m sure he’s a perfectly adequate boss.” Now, Tyler laughed for real. “Yeah, he’s...adequate.” Shaking his head, he propped his hip on the table. This was the most fun he’d had with a woman in months—and they both still had their clothes on.

Flirtilicious February Blog Hop: Excerpts and Giveaways!

Happy Valentine's Day! Today I wanted to share one of my favorite poems with you about love!

When I Was One-and-Twenty

BY A. E. HOUSMAN
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
“Give crowns and pounds and guineas
       But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
       But keep your fancy free.”
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.

When I was one-and-twenty
       I heard him say again,
“The heart out of the bosom
       Was never given in vain;
’Tis paid with sighs a plenty
       And sold for endless rue.”
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, ’tis true, ’tis true.

This was in one of my mother's poetry books that she got as a gift MANY years before I was born. The spine is ripping, the pages are old and worn and the title is nearly indiscernible. I love it. I used to flip through the pages and this poem has a little faded, smudged penciled-in star. I asked my mom about it and she said it was one of her favorites, so she marked it. When I was little, I memorized this poem, but I was nothing more than a parrot reciting words that I had no understanding of. Now that I'm 21 I understand a bit more, but when I'm "two-and-twenty" perhaps it'll make even more sense to me.  Do you guys have a favorite poem, or song, or book, video, movie, candy, etc that reminds you of love? What are some of your flirty-est memories?

In honor of all things flirty a bunch of amazing authors were genergous enough to share the love and donate things for a giveaway! I'm also going to be giving away a special swag pack that I'm still cooking up!

Now, enjoy this excerpt from Rachel Harris! It's from her book "Seven Day Fiancee."

She bit her lip as he held out his hand and she placed hers in it. Warmth enveloped her skin, stirring up the blood until she was sure her pulse matched the upbeat tempo. “Just don’t step on my feet, city boy.”
At the edge of the dance floor, Angelle found them a spot a little ways from the crowd. Cajun dancing could be as easy or as complicated as you wanted to make it. As a beginner, one who had a heck of a lot of pride, she figured she’d go light on Cane. Especially since people were already eyeing them with curiosity.
Okay, so we’ll start with the open-handed position,” she told him. “From here, we can do several easy moves you’ve probably seen before. You’ll look like a pro in no time.”
He chuckled as if he doubted it, but she ignored him. With two older brothers, she’d seen enough macho behavior to last her a lifetime. Cane was worried about failing—whether it was because he didn’t want to look stupid in front of the town or her, she didn’t know. But it didn’t matter, either, because what he failed to realize was that Angie was a damn fine teacher.
Now, old-school dancing is a bit different, but with the Cajun swing and Zydeco, you want rhythm. Your body should be fluid and bop to the beat.” Elbows bent and close to her sides, she took his hands and swung them along with the tempo. He raised an eyebrow, and she rolled her eyes. “You’re a musician, so don’t even tell me you can’t find the beat.”
Cane chuckled and then swung his arms, flawlessly finding the rhythm. They added the feet, pumping with a bounce step, and the amused lightness on his face filled her with so much happiness she thought she’d burst. For a time, Cajun dancing had defined her. The dance floor had been the one place she let herself go, where she didn’t care who her family was or what people expected of her. She lost herself in the lively music and the fast-paced steps. And now, she was sharing it with Cane.
This was the icing on the cake of an already perfect day.
Once the basic step was solid, Angelle quickly taught Cane key moves like the Sweetheart, the Hip Turn, and the Turn-Under. And after several minutes of practice, delightful moments filled with missteps, laughter, and a whole lot of tingles, Angie declared him ready for his dance floor debut.
If it makes you happy, Angel, I’ll do just about anything. I believe I owe you a date from the auction.” Cane looked to the crowd of colorfully dressed couples spinning, shuffling, and sliding along the plywood. “But you have to know I’m gonna be a bull in a china shop out there.”
No, you won’t.” While it was true they wouldn’t be winning any dance awards tonight, after only a few songs, Cane was really doing well. “And yes, it would make me happy.”
She smiled brightly, feeling a strange surge of confidence. Cane’s gaze glided over her face, a grin pulling at his mouth, and he pressed a soft kiss on the tip of her nose. “Then lead on, tiny dancer.”
Hand in hand, still smiling, they walked out onto the true dance floor. Cane took her hands in his, and then, they began to dance.

As they swirled around the floor, Angie felt like she was in a movie. A movie that actually showed Cajun people right, instead of a bunch of toothless twits like on Waterboy. They weren’t perfect. Cane still stumbled and got confused. One time, he even stepped on her toes. But it was in those mistakes that Angelle lost a bit more of her heart. He was trying, trying for her, and he was there, for her. The sexy, intelligent, witty playboy before her was willing to make an ass out of himself for the sake of the cause…and because it made her happy. That was worth more than a bazillion blue ribbons and championships.

Flirt Squad Challenge Week 3: Where Would Reyna Send You?

Hiya!

As you guys can tell by the title of this post, this is going to be another Flirt Squad challenge to promote A Tale of Two Centuries, the second book in the My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century series by Rachel Harris.

This week it's all about time travel, since that's a HUGE theme that runs through the novels. Reyna is the gypsy girl that has the power and pizzazz to take your hearts desires and make them come true! So, we were asked to think about where we'd want Reyna to send us!

I had a hard time thinking about this one, and then I remembered that it could be a temporary trip. So, with that in mind. I decided I want to go back to 13th/14th century Scotland.

The scenery, the kilts, the bagpipes, the accents, the castles... the bloodshed. Ok, that last one I'm not looking forward too as much, but I'm hoping that my trip would come out to be less bloody than some of the stories I hear about Scotland.

Every year here in my state of Connecticut we have a few Scottish festivals and it almost feels as if I travel back in time for those. I haven't been to one in a few years but I'm hoping to go again this year.

Now, as for that time period - I've always liked it. I like the ruggedness, the fact that countries were still being discovered that traditions weren't THAT blended (compared to today.) Everything was more raw, more original. I want to see the roots of where people come from.

Eilean Donan Castle

Cute furry cows

Glencoe, Scotland.

Castle Ruins

The coast of Fair Isle, Scotland.

Here's a little historical video about Scottish dialects. :)

And here's a little shout out to my favorite two Scotsman: Zachary Moore and Martin Connelly! It was Martin's birthday a few days ago so go wish him happy birthday!

So - where in the world, or rather WHEN in the world would you have Reyna send you? I can't wait to hear about it!

Flirt Squad Challenge: What are YOU passionate about?

Hey guys!

So, as you can see by that wonderful blog button to the right that am a part of the Flirt Squad, the street team/fan club for Rachel Harris.

Soon her second book in the My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century series will be out and to celebrate we're doing all sorts of fun stuff to prepare the world for A Tale of Two Centuries!

I've already had the privilege to read this book and my review will be out on Step Into Fiction on August 6th!

In order to get ready, like I said, we're doing a bunch of fun stuff. Namely, we're having a bunch of challenges! This week's challenge is to write about what we're passionate about, or who we are and what we do or want to do with this great big thing we call life.

So, this blog post is about what I am, what I'm passionate about. Or we could have made a collage or something or other that shows what Less is passionate about  (theater.)

I decided to combine the two. I painted. I love to paint. I'm not saying I'm super great or anything, but it's something I love to do and it makes me feel a million times better after I do.

Then I thought about Less. How she's constantly struggling to find an in-between. Highs and lows. Light and Darkness.

She reminded me of Persephone from the Greek Myth. To go or to stay...so I painted what I felt when I thought of Less, and Austin and ATOTC in general.

I call this one "Hades and Persephone."

As you can tell it's abstract. It's what you make of it. It's lightness, it's darkness, it's a little bit of something else. It's Less. It's passion thrown in the mix. It's abstract because, like theater it is what YOU make of it.

(Those little brass looking things are the bottom of the easel clips.)

So, that's my passion - painting and letting the viewer bring what they will to it. My canvas may be colored, but it's still blank - it's still waiting for what YOU add to it.

So, what is your passion?

And here's the wonderful book that inspired it all!
