VOLUME ONE: Starlight Saga

High school reporter Sloane Masterson knows she has one helluva story when
she witnesses hottie Hayden Lancaster bending forks with his mind.
Like any good journalist, Sloane sets out to uncover the truth, even if it includes a
little stalking. When the superhuman feats start to pile up and the undeniable heat
rises between them, Hayden has no choice but to reveal his secret: he’s an alien
They’re as different as night and day—she’s a curvy, purple-haired, horror junkie
and he’s a smoking hot, antisocial, brainiac—yet the intense fascination between
them refuses to go away. Even at Hayden’s insistence that dating each other is “off
limits” and crazy dangerous, their fiery attraction threatens to go supernova.
Now Sloane’s dealing with creepy government agents, über snobby
extraterrestrials, and a psycho alien ex-girlfriend out for revenge. After a crash
course on the rules of interstellar dating, Sloane must decide if their star-crossed
romance is worth risking her own life....

Sherry has compiled a few of her favorite moments from the first book in the Starlight Saga, “LOST IN STARLIGHT.” Enjoy the excerpts!

I’m suddenly aware that Hayden Lancaster’s blatantly staring at me. Hard to miss. His messenger bag is in one hand, and drumsticks stick out of his back pocket. I lift my hand in a hesitant little wave. He doesn’t return my gesture, just continues gazing at me through those thick lashes that frame his unique eyes.

My head goes all woozy. Even my limbs feel jittery. Frustration and confusion are warring inside me for having any feelings for someone like him.  And what’s with the stare?
A wave of nervousness hits hard. Is there toilet paper hanging out of my jeans? Food stuck in my teeth? Or have Frankenstein bolts suddenly sprouted from my

Being on Hayden’s radar is a little unsettling. I admit there’s something about Mr. Puppy Hero’s rare smiles, lopsided with an edge, that draw girls to him like insects buzzing a bug zapper. For better or worse, no one can resist Hayden Lancaster. Not even me….

“Do you believe in destiny, Hayden?” I ask.“I do now…but before I met you, I didn’t think there was any such thing as love-at-first-sight, or one person for everyone, or a soulmate. But when I’m near you, I think...I might be wrong.” His expression softens, and he runs his thumb across my bottom lip, causing the blood to sear in my veins. “You know what I believe now? That the universe has no conscious will, only inevitabilities, and it was inevitable that we should be together. It was fated—written in the stars—that no matter what, I’ll never stop trying to make you happy or wanting to keep you safe. I am lost in you, with no desire to escape.”

My breath snags in my throat. Even my knees wobble. How is it that he can say the most romantic things?

Saleana's Saturdays #2: Launching the TBR Project

Hey everyone,

If you've been paying attention to my other tabs at all you may have noticed that I'm not accepting anymore books at the moment to review. This is because of a lack of time to read the books that I've been offered compared to the books I've purchased and downloaded onto my Kindle app.

With that being said I have a TON of books that I want to get to, but haven't read because I was bombarded with review requests and sometimes I just don't know how to say "no."

I want this review site to be fun for me and for you readers and I really wanted this site to be about the books I'd honestly read and review, not things that I've been scouted out to review even though that's really fun for me and it's so awesome to have people want to read and review their hard work.

I'm honored at all the requests I've gotten.

In any case I've decided to give myself a little goal/project which I "creatively" named "The TBR Project." I'm going to go through all the books, or at least a good chunk of them before I accept any more books to review because other than that I'm going to go insane. I don't want to be insane.

So - onward with the TBR Project. I think it'd be super awesome if you guys joined me. Let's get through those books that we've been putting off and let's clear up some space on the iPads and kindles and nooks and things.

Excerpt #2
I sat in that empty lot for five minutes before there was a tap at my window. It was Simon. Why the fuck was he here? Rolling down the window, I gave him my best bitch brow. “What’re you doing here?” “Save it, small fry.” He laughed and opened my door. “Boss man just left, and my boss demanded I retrieve you. It’s a preventive decoy.” My expression must’ve matched my thoughts: I’m not following. “If Talan sees you and Esther walking toward the shop, he’ll know something’s up,” Simon explained while shoving a bag at me. I looked inside the bag and arched the brow at him again. “What’s up with the wig?” “Simple. You and Esther have a very distinct hair color and that solves one problem. If we happen to see him, I’ll pull you in closer and he’ll think its Esther getting her fix.” I smiled: Now this made sense. “Good job, young grasshopper. I’m impressed.” Simon flipped me off with an amused grin on his face. “You’re perfect for him, you know?” “He’s perfect for me,” I amended and grabbed his offered hand. The long coat I was wearing prevented him from seeing anything. Fucker still waggled his brow the moment my high-heeled shoes came into view, though. “Talan’s in for one hell of a night.” Simon bit his lip. “I’m happy for him, but dammit, I wish you girls would’ve let us in on this. ‘Moody fucker’ is the nicest way to describe what he’s been like since he found out he was booked tonight.” “I know.” Simon mock-glared at my giggle. “I’m sorry, but all this was necessary. He’s going to— pardon my crudeness—blow his load the moment he realizes what’s about to happen.” “That he is.” He laughed and walked me back toward the parlor. We made it there without incident. Simon stopped in front of the back door, “This is where I leave you, ma’am. Esther has everything else set up. It’ll be you and him once you walk through that door.” “Thanks, Simon.” I pulled him in for a tight hug then watched him stroll off. The nerves were starting to take a hold of me again. Would Talan like this? Who was I kidding? Of course he would. That man has wanted nothing more than to lay his stamp, his creation, on my skin for months. Opening the door, I heard soft music playing in the distance. It made me smile. Our playlist, the one I’d created for just this purpose, played through the store’s speakers. My feet carried me forward. His office door was closed, all the lights off except for his private room—it was lit. Candles and low-lighting illuminated every inch of space. Perfect. Talan’s station was set up: only black ink on his table, gun, needles, cups, cleaning solution and towels … Lying in his chair was my folder, open with the stencil of his design atop the rest. It was a reminder of how he saw me. His equal. His other half. With shaking fingers, I opened my coat and let it fall to the floor. Beneath the fabric I had worn nothing. This was my gift to him. The flesh he admired and made come alive with just the tone of his voice. Bending at the waist, I picked up my coat and carried it to just outside of his door—and dropped it there. Let him find it. Find me.

Excerpt: Book of Bart by Ryan Hill

Title: The Book of Bart
Author: Ryan Hill
Genre: Paranormal
Age Group: Young Adult
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Release Date: May 22, 2014
Links: Goodreads

Only one thing is so powerful, so dangerous that Heaven and Hell must work together to find it: the Shard of Gabriel.

With a mysterious Black Cloud of Death hot on the shard’s trail, a desperate Heaven enlists the help of Bart, a demon who knows more about the shard than almost anyone. Six years ago, he had it in his hands. If only he’d used it before his coup to overthrow the devil failed. Now, he’s been sprung from his eternal punishment to help Samantha, an angel in training, recover the shard before the Black Cloud of Death finds it.

If Bartholomew wants to succeed, he’ll have to fight the temptation to betray Samantha and the allure of the shard. After an existence full of evil, the only way Bart can get right with Hell is to be good.

Growing up, Ryan Hill used to spend his time reading and writing instead of doing homework. This resulted in an obsession with becoming a writer, but also a gross incompetence in the fields of science and mathematics. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Ryan has been a film critic for over five years. He lives in Raleigh, NC, with his dog/shadow Maggie. Ryan also feels strange about referring to himself in the third person.

Samantha burst out of The House of the Rising Sun, trying to catch up to me. “Wait. Where

are you going?”

I waved her off. “You’re on your own, kiddo.”

“Where are you going?”

“Wherever the day takes me. Disney World. The moon. I don’t know and I don’t care.”

I lit a cigarette and took a drag. “I’m not messing with a female demon, or whatever it is,” I said,

exhaling through my nose. “You think I’m bad? I at least have fun when I’m working. Those harpies

just…they take things way too seriously.”

Female demons are the worst. So insecure. One look at another woman and next thing you

know, the Titanic is sinking. Believe me, I know from experience.

“How can I stop one of them from getting the Shard?”

I stopped and turned around, moving within inches of her face. “They probably already have

it. Why else would Pierce have attacked me? Why do you think we got jumped at the museum?”

Samantha shrugged. “I’m not sure.”

“Right,” I snapped. Lies. Or as angels call it, distortion of the truth. Anger boiled in my

veins. I considered letting my horns out to play. It would be nothing to ram them through her chest,

ruining her perfect C-cups. “So tell me, little miss angel face, why should I help you when you won’t

tell me what you know?”

Samantha bit her lower lip, like she carefully considered what to say next. A wise move. I

wanted to impale her like a matador.

“Well?” I pressed the button on my keyless entry to unlock my car. “I don’t have all day. I’d

like to deflower a virgin or two before sundown.”

Her expression became stolid. “I can’t believe you’re scared,” she said derisively. “You. A

demon. Afraid of a girl.”

She laughed and laid a hand on the roof of my Benz, adding to her offense.

I’d have removed her hand from her body, but she’d called out my demonhood, and

addressing that took precedence. Nobody accused me of being afraid.

“Scared?” I spit out my cigarette. “I’m not scared. I’m just smart enough to know when to

close up shop. You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about.”

“Maybe you’re right.” Samantha’s lips curled upward. “Maybe they did send me the wrong

demon. Next time I’ll make sure they send me someone who knows how to finish the job.”

Oh, that burned. This girl was good. And I bought into it, because to be fair, why should I

stand idly by and let somebody else succeed in my stead? I wanted to pat her on the back for such a

fine manipulation, but thought better of it.

Blast: Blackwood Crossing

Blackwood CrossingBlackwood Crossing If you had to make a choice, would it be loyalty or love?     Excerpt #1
Charles held the silver watch in his palm, watching the seconds and minutes pass. Devon would arrive to relieve him in half an hour. Until then, his thoughts would continue to be plagued with images of Rhona in the room behind him. If she had met him, Charles Blackwood, Viscount and British agent, and not Charles Pearce, the common man who saved her life a little more than two years ago, would they have found a way to stay together? Keeping their identities secret was one of the reasons why both he and Tristan had quit the agency. Had the last assignment, which pulled them back into service, been for anyone other than a friend, they would have remained retired or at least tried to. That matter was easily solved, but then another case arose, and then another, until they found themselves once again at the top of the agency’s assignment list. They had managed for nearly two years to avoid accepting assignments, and Charles appreciated that Tristan was here for him. He also knew there wouldn’t be another woman in his lifetime, and he was prepared to make his life a solitary one, but he never imagined escorting the only woman he had ever loved to another man. Charles recalled Rhona promising him that one day he would regret his choice to leave her behind. “My father will never let me marry a commoner, but I will run away with you.” Rhona pressed her gloved hand against Charles’s face. Charles turned his face inward and kissed her palm. “Nothing would please me more, but I can’t stay.” Rhona pulled away. “I don’t understand.” Charles ignored the heavy ache in his chest. “As you said, I’m a commoner, and England is home. It’s where my work is.” “Then work here.” “Too many are leaving Scotland. You know it’s not possible.” Rhona stood from the bench they’d been sharing inside the walled garden, now left dormant with the heart of winter settling in. “It would be possible if it’s what you truly wanted.” “Rhona, it’s not a simple thing for me to stay.” “When do you leave?” Charles stood beside her and reached out, but she backed away. His hand dropped to his side. “I have to leave in the morning.” “One day, Charles, you will regret this choice.” Rhona walked quickly, frost and leaves crunching under each step as she moved farther away. “I already do.” Charles’s whisper was carried away with the wind.

Author Bio:

On a cloudy day, I decided to write my first novel (I didn't really have anything else to do). The thing here is that I'm known to have a weird imagination, and I guess the first time I got told that, was the day I actually realized that I did. Which led me to putting my weird imagination on paper, turning it into a novel, and loving the fact that I actually did it. And had fun with it.

I was born and raised in New Zealand. (Yes, it's that little country beside Australia. No, it's not a part of Australia.) I dream big, and have family and friends that support me with each step I take. I spend a majority of my time reading, writing, watching Sci-Fi movies (I'm a nerd and proud!), listening to music, and going on an adventure with my characters (that's my favorite one). I am also a part-time reviewer on Step Into Fiction (That site totally rocks by the way.)

I believe that if you really want it, you can have it. I'm not saying it's going to be easy because it probably won't be. As for me, I'm excited to go on this journey and introduce everyone to the imagination that is mine, and weird. Her debut novel, Counterpart, will be published 2/13/2013.
