EXCERPT: “Where are you from?”
Ah, an actual question. That means I can ask one back.
“Nebraska, toward the South Dakota and Wyoming side, if that helps.”
“I’ve never met anyone from there.”
Michigan was a long way from home.
“I usually get ‘not in Nebraska anymore’ jokes, and then I have to decide if I’m going to remind them that’s Kansas or play along.”
 “What do you usually do?”
 “Play along.”
“You don’t like conflict, huh?” He sounded normal tonight, as if talking to me wasn’t an unpleasant chore anymore. That was a relief since I’d come to look forward to these moments with him so much. More, maybe, than I’d like to admit.
Right. Friends.
I distracted myself by considering his question. “Not if it can be avoided. I’m not what you’d call pugnacious, no. But I like to think I don’t back off important issues. What about you?”
“No.” His voice was bleak and quiet. “I don’t. Even when I should.”
Wow, that took a dark turn.
If I could’ve jumped onto his patio without breaking an ankle or waking Sam, I’d have been down there like a shot. The distance between us seemed intolerable, and from the knot in my throat, I didn’t see how I could live another second without touching him, finding out if his hair was as soft as it looked or what he smelled like.
I wanted him in a way I never had before. In high school, I had a boyfriend who played basketball, and we broke up when I left the state. It was a rational decision, and I didn’t miss him that much once I was gone. My freshman year, I went out with a lot of different guys, one date here, two dates there, but I never clicked with anyone enough to focus on them. Sometimes there were hookups with no strings, no expectations.
Classes, friends and work seemed a lot more important. The intensity of this attraction was foreign and frightening, if exhilarating. I might already be backing off if I had the faintest sense that Ty was jerking me around on purpose.
Wish he didn’t make me feel this way. It’d be so much simpler if I could friend-zone him. I realized I still hadn’t touched his verbal grenade. “We all have things we’d do differently in hindsight.”
“What is it about you?” he asked in a wondering tone. “Huh?”
“You make me...better. Calmer.”
“Like a sedative?” I snickered. It was the least sexy thing a guy had ever said to me, including a junior high squeeze who said my face wasn’t actually that bad. He laughed, too, a sheepish sound. “I didn’t mean it like that. Just...I’m worried pretty much all the time that I’m dropping the ball somewhere, about to face-plant, but when I come out here and hear your voice, everything backs off like ten steps. I can breathe again.”

Release Day: HER DESTINY by Monica Murphy

We are excited to bring you the Release Day Launch of Monica Murphy's HER DESTINY! HER DESTINY is a young adult Contemporary Romance and the sequel to HIS REVERIE. Grab your copy today!

 Excerpt:
“You sure Evan doesn’t mind me being here?”
“He probably hates that you’re staying the night, but he’ll get over it.” I take a step toward him and pat him on the shoulder, marveling at the solid feel of muscle beneath my palm, beneath the thick fabric of his sweatshirt. Has he gotten taller since the last time I saw him? Broader? He’s so big, standing next to him makes me feel small.

“Do you need anything else?”
I remove my hand from his shoulder, wishing I could touch him more.
“Nah. I’m gonna change, brush my teeth and go to sleep.”
He smiles, looking cute, like a little boy and my heart flutters. When he reaches for the hem of his sweatshirt I step away, watch in silent fascination as he pulls the fabric over his head, taking the T-shirt he’s wearing beneath it upward so I catch a glimpse of his flat, perfect stomach, the little trail of dark hair that starts just under his navel. I’m breathless, my skin is tingling and when he tosses the sweatshirt onto the couch, I start to walk backwards.

“Okay well, good night.” I need to get away from him before I do something really stupid. Like jump him. “Night, Reverie,” he calls after me as I hurry to my bedroom. Glancing over my shoulder, I find him watching me with that penetrating, thoughtful gaze and I turn away, practically tripping over my feet in the hall. I rush into my room, shutting the door quietly before I slump against it, closing my eyes and pressing my forehead against the rough wood. My feelings for him haven’t stopped. I still want him. I’m still in love with him. So why am I denying myself from being with him?

Because I’ve changed and I’m worried he won’t accept me for who I really am? And because my life is so crazy the last thing I need is another complication to muck it all up? Valid reasons, but why would I deprive myself from being with him? He’s the only one who understood me. Who listened to me. Who cared about me. I think he still does. Cracking open my eyes, I push away from the doorway and shut off the light before I crawl into bed. I lay there in the dark, listening to him move about inside the bathroom, which is right next to my bedroom. He finishes brushing his teeth before he exits the room and I swear I can feel him standing on the other side of my closed door, waiting. Listening for any sign of life coming from within. I can’t move.

I’m frozen, holding my breath, waiting for him to knock on the door, to turn the knob, anything to show that he wants to see me. I want him to both respect my brother’s wishes and defy them. I want him overcome with need yet cautious. I want...everything. All of him. Disappointment crashes through me when I realize he is definitely obeying Evan’s wishes. He doesn’t sneak into my room, doesn’t attempt to talk to me, nothing. I should be happy. Pleased that he doesn’t want to upset anyone. Instead, I’m sad. Rolling over on my side, I punch the pillow beneath my head and settle in for the night, willing myself to fall asleep. I get to spend pretty much the entire weekend with him. Maybe we can work it out then since we’ll have plenty of time. But for now I’ll have to settle for Nick visiting me... Only in my dreams.

  About HER DESTINY:

I knew from the moment I first saw him he was the one. The only boy I could ever want. The only boy I could ever love. They say he’s bad for me. But I know he’s not. Until the day he rejects me. And breaks my heart. Everything changes in the blink of an eye. My entire life as I’ve known it is...gone. Secrets are revealed. Promises once made are irrevocably broken. There’s no way my family can get back to what we once were. So when Nicholas Fairfield walks back into my life like he never left it, I’m furious. Thrilled. Irritated. Excited. Despite my confusion, I want to be with him. I love him. But danger lurks where we least expect it. Someone will do whatever it takes to tear us apart. All I know is: I won’t let them. Because Nick Fairfield? He’s mine.

The writing is tight and well-paced, and nicely balances action with Annabelle’s character development as she tries to unravel the mysteries of... her dreams. Her teenage voice is spot on: unsure of herself, but spirited, with a sarcasm that masquerades as confidence. The plot twists and moves in unexpected yet fascinating directions." -- The Roanoke Times

Excerpt:

I’ve always been a dreamer. Daydreams. Night dreams. Dreams of grandeur and dreams of

escape. If I were an onion and you peeled back the papery outside, you’d find layer after layer of

eye-watering dreams. And in the center, where there’s that little curlicue of onion heart? There’d

be a puff of smoke from the dreams that burned away.

It was all just brain waves, I thought—disconnected, like the notebook that my friend Talon

keeps. She draws a line down the middle of the page; on the right she writes everything she

remembers about a dream, and on the left she puts notes about the stuff that’s happening in real

life, things that might trigger her subconscious. Reality on one side, dreams on the other—a

clear line between the two.

But it turns out there are no clear lines, just a jumble of what is and what might be. And all of it

is real.

The moment he, Tyler Stone, walked into my best friend’s apartment, I knew that curveball was heading straight for my gut.
The hit comes in the form of a no-strings proposition... One that gives him utter control over my body.
If I surrender, that curveball is steadily en-route for a collision course with my heart.

He’s a sex addict. I’m a love addict.
This is temptation.

EXCERPT

Well, this is awkward.
And I don’t mean nervous-giggle awkward. I mean turn-around-and-run-for-your-fucking-life awkward.
Recognition flashes in his dark eyes when he sees me. Heat flares briefly, too quickly for Clara to notice it, but slowly enough that I know I wasn’t imagining it.
That same heat flushes up my neck and colors my cheeks. Yep. This is going from bad to worse.
“Thanks, Clara. Shut the door on your way out.”
Alone?
“But—”
“Sheila knows I shoot alone. Get out and shut the door.” He’s talking to her but his eyes are focused on me.
I lick my lips as Clara makes another halfhearted attempt to argue and he shuts her down once more. I trace his face. His unruly, dark hair is swept to one side, keeping out of his equally dark eyes. His cheekbones are defined and his jaw is strong, angular. And his lips are...curved in amusement at having caught me staring at him.
The slam of the door jolts me back to reality. Kind of. I still have hot-man haze. I mean, crap.
“This is a turn of events I wasn’t expecting.” His accent is crisp and what the hell is it about the British accent?
“Yep.” I fiddle with the belt on the robe. “It’s certainly a surprise.”
It’s not every day that your one-night stand becomes your photographer.
“At least there’ll be no...awkwardness.” He drops his gaze to my hidden body and I swallow. Oh, no. He’s definitely seen my body. And touched it. And licked it.
I shift uncomfortably. Nope. Not even going there. Eyes off the bed please, Olivia.
“Let’s get unnecessary introductions out of the way, shall we?” He steps toward me.
My lips curl into a smile. “It’s not unnecessary if you don’t know the other person’s name.”

It is the PREQUEL to Wild Temptation

When I walked into the club, my plan was to finally seduce my ex-boss. But I don’t expect him, the man with his dirty British mouth and sexy as sin smirk.
I don’t expect the way he takes one look at me and claims me for his own... Or the way he craves control.
Because I crave to give it.
It doesn’t matter if something darker lingers in his eyes, or desperation tinges his touch. It doesn't matter if those things nudge at my addictive personality.

The rules are simple:
One night.
One f*ck.
Run.

*Wild Attraction is a free prequel novella of around 9,000 words. It is followed by Wild Temptation, the first full length novel in the WILD series, the spin-off series from the bestselling CALL series. Wild Temptation will be available August 18th.*

Announcement: Being Put on Hold

Hi everyone!

If you follow on Facebook you'll see that I made a tiny announcement saying that I've been having technical difficulties.

As you can see under this post (if it goes live) that the last post is from the 8th. I had posts from the 9th to today, the 14th, written, queued and ready to go. None of them went live and they are no longer saved anywhere in my draft or published folders.

Therefore, I'll be taking a small break to try to figure out what's going on. A few other bloggers using Blogspot have had their posts deleted and labelled as "spam." I want to make sure that's not happening with my posts.

If Blogspot is going to keep it up, I'll either have to move the blog, or stop blogging altogether. I'm not sure how many people realize how much time and energy goes into creating a blog for the readers.

On average, each post takes a few hours. I go to websites that have allowed me to be a tour host, sign up for the posts, schedule them in, receive emails with the images and info I need, upload the images for easy uploading to the blog and then format each post and schedule the actual post on the blog. Seems easy, but when you have 30+ posts in the draft folder and 15+ emails every day it gets a little hectic.

I'm not saying all this to complain. I like doing this, and I like sharing this content with you guys. I just want to make sure that my hard work is actually going to be SEEN.

I'm going to work on emailing all the tour sites that I've seemingly "blown off" in the past few days, if I've missed someone, hopefully you're seeing this post.

Also, if you like the content I share please share the posts that go live on here. As seen above, this is a lot of hard work and I'm currently doing all this solo. I do like sharing the books I've read and covers and excerpts, but I don't have a lot of interaction with the readers. I hope that I can get a few more comments here and there, and hopefully someone is reading these posts. I never really know unless I get a comment.

So, if you've been here and love the content: Thank-you. If you're new: welcome! I hope that I'll have things up and running soon.

Excerpt from Shadows in the Curtain

Timothy stuck to her side while people surged passed with compliments, hand squeezes, and the occasional hug. Emmy searched every eye, but only saw excitement from a fun performance or weariness from sitting too long. If anyone had murder in mind, he was as good at putting on a fake face as she was.
No one piqued her curiosity. Until he came. She had no clue what his name was, but the past few weeks she’d seen him almost every morning at the gym. He was much too good-looking, with his rippling muscles and deep blue eyes. She always avoided looking directly at him, though she knew that was as obvious an indicator of her attraction as staring would be. She couldn’t avoid him now.
The wide entryway, which featured plush, faded carpet and wood-planked walls, shrank as he drew nearer. The babble of the crowd faded. He reached for her hand, staring deep into her eyes. Her hand fitted itself into his like he was a magnet. Her entire body leaned toward him.
“You were amazing. So passionate.” He smiled and the room swayed.
Emmy was quite sure the passion she experienced right now had nothing to do with singing or acting. She should draw away but couldn’t force herself to. “Thank you,” she managed, embarrassed by the huskiness of her voice as she tried to catch a breath.
The crowd pressed forward, and he was forced to release her hand and move to the side. His blonde date gushed over Emmy for a second, and then they were gone.
Emmy continued greeting other patrons but couldn’t forget the allure of his blue eyes. He didn’t seem like the creepy stalker type, but she had to wonder. Could he be the one sending the notes?
