K. D. Friedrich is a writer of Contemporary and Paranormal Romance. A lifelong New Yorker, an overprotective mother (her daughter's words), and an obsessed reader of everything romance. Most days, you can find her hard at work, creating intricate worlds and compelling characters, hot alpha heroes being her favorite. Kian fisted his fingers in her shirt and clung to the incredible rightness of having Summer in his arms. Her spine stiffened the moment his biceps encased her. Through the thin cotton, the softness of her skin teased him.

She soon settled, and they held each other, neither one making an attempt to separate.

Unable to resist, he buried his face in her throat. He filled his lungs with her sweet scent, a scent as fragrant as the array of blooms decorating the woodland surrounding them.

Did she suffer this incredible desire too?

As he traced his mouth over her pulse, she trembled, making him smile.

A steady stream of tingling pulses created warmth wherever her body touched him. The scorching lust threatened to burn him alive. She may not know it, but she owned him.

If he didn't get away from her, he was going to pull her onto his lap and show her his appreciation in the most carnal way. He'd drag her dainty fingers to his rock-hard cock and show her how to ease a man's suffering.

No… not any man.

Her man.

He pulled back slowly in order to admire her beauty.

Jesus, she was stunning. Her skin held a pretty blush and her olive-green eyes sparkled from the light cast by the flickering lantern sitting in front of the window.

"Kian."

His name sounded like a plea. The fact he affected her with the same ardor pleased him. To show his pleasure, he responded with a satisfied groan.

Summer slid back, taking with her the heat he found so alluring.  

He raked his fingers through his hair, his body hard and tense. Her rejection shoved a wave of frustration through him.

How can she not feel this… connection?

When he dared peek at her face, he found her cheeks flush. Beneath his heated gaze, her body shuddered, providing more proof his little witch wasn't immune to his charms.

Unable to hold back his pleasure, he smirked.

Her blush deepened, and her tongue flicked across her lower lip, drawing his attention to her luscious mouth. Little did she know how much her simple action affected him.

He moved closer. "God, you're beautiful."

1. This book revolves around a 13 year old - did you have any fun things happen when you were 13?

To be honest, 13 was tough for me in a lot of ways. My parents had divorced when I was 12, I was given a lot of responsibility at home, and I was definitely the oddball in school. I did have a gaggle of friends, but I was from a very small town, never felt I fit in, and many of my classmates treated me that way. I had big dreams of NYC and acting, and a lot of kids just though I was weird.

2. How do you think your 13 year old self would react to the adventures of Rimorr? Would you have survived?

I was pretty scrappy overall. Being an actress from a young age, I think I would have considered it the role of a lifetime. However, I was not a tough kid. So some of it would definitely have freaked me out! Moya has Fritz with her, though, so if I had someone with me -- I don't know...I imagine I would have risen to the challenge.


3. What advice do you have to the pre-teens and teens of today that are called "weird?"

Embrace it! Whatever it is that makes you "weird" to others is what makes you unique in the world! And weird is all a matter of perspective. The folks who live a truly average life, play every sport, don't read, work 9-5 and don't ever dream of anything amazing or adventurous, who never look up at the night sky and marvel at the fact that we are on a spinning rock hurling through space -- those people are weird to me.

It's hard when you are young. It feels like things will never change, like it will always be hard. But it won't be. Shine your weird light brightly into the world so the other weirdoes can find you. And remember what they say: "Weird is just a side effect of being awesome"!

4. If you could give one piece of advice to your past self, what would it be?

It gets better. :) Stay true to that voice inside, keep seeing the world as you do. Being sensitive, seeing the beauty and wonder in the world can be hard -- but it's also what lets you truly live...deeply, honestly. And it gets better.
5. Will there be a second book to the series?

There's already a companion book called The Creature Compendium (a kind of reference encyclopedia of creatures our heroes meet in the forest). Then, yes! Tentatively called "The Council of Elders", Moya and Fritz aren't quite finished. Their adventure in Rimorr has an effect on our world, and there's more for Moya to find out about herself.

I have a feeling there's one more after that -- I think they both need to go back to Rimorr and experience more of that world since so far they've only been through one forest! There's a lot more there...

Author Bio

Melissa Volker started out life as an actress, studying at New York University, and the Strasberg Institute. She worked with a theater focused on arts-and-education, bringing production workshops into schools. But after more than a decade living as the struggling artist in NYC, she wanted a saner life, and moved to Boston.

There she met her husband, and they had their son (now fourteen). She was always writing, but after leaving acting behind there was a creative void. The writing filled that.  She also began exploring photography, finding that sometimes a story or moment wants to be capture in words, other times it is better told visually.

She has two literary fiction novels, "Delilah of Sunhats and Swans" which won a 5 star Reader's Choice award, and a collection of short stories inspired by The Great Gatsby, living as a sensitive starving artist, and surviving NYC entitled, "Still, Life: a collection of echoes."

"The Thirteenth Moon: a Moya Fairwell adventure" is her first young adult, fantasy novel. Whimsical, silly, and full of intense magic she has been called a cross between C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling. If asked who the book is appropriate for, she'll say it's for anyone who can enjoy it -- regardless of age!

The book has a companion website with a "secret room" that can only be unlocked with a password from the story. Once in, readers can continue exploring the world of Rimorr, including the mythology, the creatures and more.

She looks forward to continuing Moya's story (for there is certainly more!) and looks forward to hearing from readers about their experience reading the book!

Danielle A. Vann lives to write. When she was small, she spent endless days writing and crafting wild characters out of thin air. As Danielle grew, that love for writing sparked a career in journalism. She began her career as a scriptwriter and then moved into a flourishing career as a news reporter, food reporter, and morning/evening news anchor. That career earned her an Associate Press Award.

After becoming a mother, she was inspired to write children's books for her three adorable children. While she holds children fiction especially close to her heart, she also loves to write books for all ages. These genres include Young-Adult Fiction, Adult Fiction, Young Reader Fiction, and Non-Fiction.

“Please call me Ross. I hope that we’ll be friends.” 

I paused, considering. Everything had been so dreamlike, so magical, since coming to the 

palace, that I had almost set aside the initial fears that had plagued me when Mr. Merk took me. 

Almost, but not quite. “What’s the price of your friendship?” I tried not to sound combative, but 

I was leery, on edge. 

A sad sigh filled the room. “I ask only that you remain here with me. I will give you all 

that you wish for, and ask for very little in return.” 

“That’s not an answer.” I tried to reason with the voice in the dark, but it was like 

fighting with my shadow: impossible to catch, and yet at the same time, totally familiar. There 

was something about the voice that made me feel safe, but my brain refused to let go of my 

earlier caution. 

“Then here’s an answer. Tonight, the price of my friendship is that you dine with me.” 

“Here? But it’s pitch black!” 

“Even so, this is how I choose to dine. Will you join me?” 

I hesitated, and a warm hand closed around my wrist. I jerked back, but even as my 

companion turned me loose, I felt the flood of heat that surged up my arm where he touched me. 

“I am hungry,” I admitted, trying to get a grip on my emotions. His hand had felt human ... and 

strong. 

He didn’t try to touch me again, but instead said, “Step forward three even paces. There 

you will find the table.” 

I walked cautiously, but I was able to take three steps across the darkness without 

obstruction. My fingertips brushed the polished surface of the table. 

There was a scraping sound close by, and the voice commanded me again. “The chair is 

immediately to your left. Will you please sit?” 

I lowered myself into the chair gingerly, groping in the dark, but it was solid beneath me. 

I relaxed slightly, even though my nerves were still on edge from the absolute darkness of the 

room. 

“Why do you eat in the dark?” I asked curiously. 

His voice was silky and laced with innuendo. “I find that it heightens the senses. Perhaps 

you’ll tell me if you agree after the meal.”
