[Review] A Kitchen Witch's World of Magical Plants and Herbs by Rachel Patterson

Title:  A Kitchen Witch's World of Magical Plants and Herbs
Author: Rachel Patterson
Publisher: Moon Books
Pages: 211
Publication Date: October 31st, 2014

Every plant, every flower, every herb and every tree has energy, and that energy has magical properties. This book is go-to guide on how to work with these magical herbs and plants, how to use them and what to do with them.

A big thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! I'm always so thankful to have these opportunities!

This is a great little book for those who are green witches especially, but is a great resource for anyone who wants to have a general working knowledge of plants and herbs. This book covers a wide range of topics, from Victorian Flower language to Planet Correspondence, to Deity correspondence, including an overview on growing, harvesting, and storing herbs.

There's a definite neo-pagan flavor to this one, which doesn't detract from the material, but knowing that will help you decide if this is something that will be useful for you and your practices.

I really appreciate that there's a plant spirit guide meditation right at the beginning as well!

The correspondence tables are solid, and what many Witches, Wiccans, and Pagans will already be familiar with, but having them all together at the beginning of the book is very handy.

Directly after that we have a list of crafts, and most seem pretty easy and accessible - I will have to try out the flower beads!

The flower and plant list was fascinating and my only complaint is that there were activities/recipes/spells mixed right into the list, which I would have liked to see separately for ease of searching for them in the future.

Overall this is a great little book, filled with lots of information to play around with. 4/5 Triquetras!

About the Author

I am a witch...have been for a very long time, not the green skinned warty kind obviously...the real sort but I am also a working wife and mother who has also been lucky enough to write and have published a book or eighteen.

I love to learn, I love to study and I have done so from books, online resources schools and wonderful mentors over the years and still continues to learn each and every day but I have learnt the most from actually getting outside and doing it.

I like to laugh...and eat cake...

I regularly give talks to local pagan groups and co-run open rituals and workshops run by the Kitchen Witch Coven.

I am High Priestess of the Kitchen Witch Coven and an Elder at the online Kitchen Witch School of Natural Witchcraft.

It is also my pleasure to contribute articles regularly to the Pagan Dawn, Magical Times and Fate & Fortune magazines.

My craft is a combination of old religion witchcraft, wicca, kitchen witchery, hedge witchery and folk magic. My heart is that of a Kitchen Witch.

I have regular blogs on Patheos Pagan (Beneath the Moon) and Witches & Pagans (Hedge Witch)
