Review: A Million Suns

I've waited a long time to read this, since it's been a long time since I could get my hands on a copy of the book. I didn't quite remember where Across the Universe left off, but I still think that this was a pretty good book.
It was depressing as hell and made me think way too much, but it was good.

Except...Amy pissed me off. So. Bad. She's stubborn, and selfish and I just do not like her. Throughout the book she tries to get Elder to run the ship the way she wants it, or thinks it needs to be run. She didn't like Phydus so the people were taken off, she doesn't like Orion, so he had to stay frozen. It's really quite annoying. I understand that Elder is devoted to her, that he loves her (only he never says that,) but it ticks me off at how everything has to be just the way she wants it. She demands so much from Elder, yet doesn't really give that much in return. She should have told him about Luthor right when it happened, not three months later after Victria is hurt. She wallows in self-pity and self-made fear and then shuts Elder out, when he's the only one that is there to help her.

So, besides for Amy I think it was a decent book, but since Amy is the FMC, the book only gets 3 stars.

Review: Ascend

LOOOOOOOVE THIS! I was putting this off for a really long time, since I knew the ending, due to another review having spoilers. I hate spoilers and so I sort of rebelled. I would NOT read the book, I would be strong.

So a year later, and I decided to read the book. I'm so happy that I did. Now, I'm in a book hangover, and I don't know how I'm going to be able to cope. I'm very pleased with the way things were wrapped up though. There was an epilogue and so there are no questions, no cliffhangers. Things were wrapped up very nicely. I'm quite pleased with the way things turned out and I can now say that I am firmly Team Loki. I was Team Finn. I am now Team Loki. Due to spoilerage I won't say why, but if you're still Team Finn at the end of the book then I don't think we read the same books.

Since it was so long since I've read books one and two I can't remember if the book picked up where the others left off, but I'm pretty sure that they do.

Awesome read, very awesome read.

Review: Darker Still

Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

Odd, but delightful. Written in a manner that makes it quick paced, but still intriguing and full of suspense. Quite a tangled mess and still, easy to follow along with.

Lord Denbury and Natalie are quite a pairing and I wished there were more details of the kissing scenes (I'm such a perv.)

Review: Falling Under

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes

Loved it. The mature language and circumstances made it so much more believable.
Donny is amazing and Ame is just like I was in high school. I completely believed both as real characters in a high school today.
Haden is delectable. I loved how there wasn't a love triangle. Theia and Haden are meant for each other and I can't wait to see how it works out in the next book.

The ending threw me off a little with the major POV changes, but I feel that it was a good move and needed. I didn't really like the final shift into Theia's POV, but I think that's just because I loved Haden's POV so much. He was just like a teen-aged boy.

Review: Firelight

Firelight by Sophie Jordan

I don't know why I waited this long to read this book - it was fantastic!
I'm on a bit of a dragon kick right now, so this fit perfectly with what I'm feeling.

Jacinda and Tamra were so believable as sisters! My sisters and I are the same way!

Cassian and Will are interesting choices. I feel like they're almost on polar opposites of the boy spectrum. I'm firmly Team Will.

Review: Dragonswood

Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey

I really loved this book. I've had it for a while, but I just picked it up and devoured it.

This can be considered the second book in the series, but it has it's own story that stood alone.

I loved Tess. I came from a background similar to hers, not as bad, but still. She really hit a nerve and I'm so glad she got out of her abusive home.

Garth was amazing. I love him and Tess together even if there were some problems with their relationship.

Took me a really long time to get into this one. Only started to interest me in the later half. Not sure if I'm going to read the sequel. The story line was original but Evie annoyed me a bit as well as Agnes' life story and all that. The first half was just annoying.

Review: Sapphire Blue

Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier

Awesome sequel to Ruby Red! Sapphire Blue picks up right where Ruby Red left off.

I have the hard cover edition, which is a little different set up from the Ruby Red paperback. I'm not sure if I prefer the hardcover with all the fancy swirls or the paperback with the more modern looking cover.

The story progresses nicely, at a quick clip. We have a lot of questions answered, but I'll be honest, with all the talk of time travel I got a little confused as to who was who and things like that. I find that it's really helpful to go over Ruby Red quickly, just to make sure that you remember everything. I'm a little sad that Emerald Green won't be about until the fall of 2013 since I want it now, but the preview at the back really helped out.

Gideon was a little annoying, with the way he lectured and was so back and forth between Charlotte and Gwen. I sided with Gwen because it was a little ridiculous of him to act the way he did sometimes.

I was super happy to figure out some of the rhyme in regards to the raven bit. The epilogue was also super helpful to the mysterious story line.

Well written! Great book, can't wait for the third and final, although I don't really see how everything is going to be solved and wrapped up nicely for the book to end prettily.

Review: Don't Expect Magic

Don't Expect Magic by Kathy McCullough

I loved this book. Delaney Collins just lost her mom. We don't know why, but we do know that her mom was sick, from the sound of things I'm assuming cancer. She has to move from her home of New Jersey to where her father, Dr. Hank, lives. Dr. Hank is a life coach who sells a lot of books on the subject and is all khakis and tucked in polo shirts. Delaney, who wears leather books and rocks a "don't talk to me" kinda vibe, hates him, as she has for most of her life. You see, perfect Dr. Hank rarely came to see her, rarely talked to her, and we don't know why.

Flash forward a little to Andrea, one of Dr. Hanks clients. Delaney gets suspicious when Dr. Hank has to go over to Andrea's house to help her. In the middle of the night, the first night that Delaney is there in fact. So she sneaks along the second time Dr. Hank has to go see Andrea. And she sees her dad transform Andrea from mess to glam. What?

Yeap, dear old Dr. Hank is an f.g. A fairy godfather. Delaney doesn't believe it at first, but when she makes apple pie filling fall from the sky right onto a skater kid in school a few days later she realizes that she too is an. f.g.

I loved how this books was from Delaney's pov. She's hilarious and a little prissy, but I love her. I adore how she designs her own boots and how she grows throughout the novel. Flynn, is amazing. Can't wait for book 2.
